Assistant Chief Williams began his career as a volunteer with the Hobbysville Fire Department in Spartanburg County and also the Woodruff Fire Department in the early ninety’s.

In May of 1994 he became employed with the Simpsonville Fire Department as a Firefighter. He was promoted to Engineer in 1996, then to Lieutenant in 1999, then to Captain in 2002. In July 2002 he was promoted to the role of Assistant Chief of operations and training, which he currently holds.

His educational accomplishments includes: Haz-Mat Technician, Fire Academy Instructor, Fire Officer I, NREMT-B and he holds a Firefighter II certification. He holds a degree in Fire Service Management from Spartanburg Technical College and a certificate from Greenville Technical College in Public Service. Chief Williams has obtained the Chief Fire Officer Designation presented by the Commission on Professional Credentialing. He also enrolled in the Fire Administration program with The University of Memphis.

He competed in the Firefighter Combat Challenge in Charlotte on April 29, 1995, along with fellow firefighters. Assistant Chief Williams was honored with the “Greenville Association of Insurance Women” firefighter of the year 2000 for his action on February 7, 2000 when he aided two citizens stranded in a hot air balloon entangled in a radio tower. He was also award the 2005 “Fire Mark” award from Liberty Mutual Group for his actions on May 4, 2005 along with the members of “A” shift during a structure fire with a victim trapped inside.

Assistant Chief Williams is a member of the State Chief’s Association, the Greenville County Chief’s Association; currently serving as Second Vice President, SC Fireman’s Association and the International Association of Fire Chief’s.
