Welcome to Simpsonville Fire Department’s Chief’s page.

Chief Jess Major

I am a native of Greenville County. I have been married to my wife Judy for Thirty-One years. We have two daughters both of whom have recently graduated from college. They are truly the love of my life.

I began my fire service career while in high school as a Junior Firefighter with the Gantt Fire Department in 1969. When I turned eighteen I became a volunteer. July of 1972 I joined the ranks as a paid Firefighter. I served in every capacity from Firefighter through Assistant Chief. I left Gantt in May of 1978 and accepted the position of Chief with the Donaldson Center Fire Department. In the late fall of 1978 I took an offer with private industry as a manger of quality control. During this time I was a member of the companies’ emergency response team and I also volunteered with Belmont Fire Department. May of 1986 with desire to return full time to the fire service I went to work for Boiling Springs Fire Department. April of 1988 I began my current job with the City of Simpsonviile Fire Department. I have served in every rank from Firefighter thru Lieutenant. When Chief Dennis Pollard retired in the summer of 2000, I applied for the position of Fire Chief and was appointed Chief Nov. 15, 2000.

I could list the many accomplishments we’ve made over the last few years with equipment and facilities, but the thing I’m most proud of is my staff. The Fifty members of this department are the finest, most dedicated men I have ever had the privilege of serving with. The credit for the professional department we have become solely belongs to each and every one of them.

Thanks for visiting my web page and please continue to enjoy our site.
