The Simpsonville Fire Department will advertise as needed
for any employment opening in the department.
All newly hired firefighters must satisfactory complete a six-month
probation period. During this time the following will apply.
- Station assignment will be determined by the Officer in Charge (OIC)
- No firefighter on probation will be assigned the responsibility of driving
and operating a front line apparatus. The Fire Chief may grant exceptions.
- No Swap of duty time will be approved unless it is with another firefighter
on probation. It is your responsibility to assure time is paid back. The
City of Simpsonville will not be responsible for time owed. All swap of
Duty time will be approved by the OIC.
- Vacation time will be accrued according to City Policy. Time off will
not be approved until a minimum of six months employment has passed and
will be at the discretion of the OIC.
- Driver training will be provided for you during probation. You will be
responsible for obtaining a Class "E" driver's license within
your probationary period. The test will be coordinated by the Department's
Safety Officer and the S.C.D.O.T.
- There will be a driving and pumping test given by the Operations Chief
before the probationary firefighter is allowed to drive and operate an Engine.
- There will be a written test along with a street test to move off probation
and onto Firefighter rank. You must score 70% to pass this test.
All probationary firefighters are required to complete 240 hours of training
and 40 hours of driver/operator training within the six month period.

Engineer Requirements
- 2 years paid or professional Fire Service experience
- 1210 Emergency Vehicle Driver Training
- 1220 Pump Operations
- 1225 Fire Department Pumper Testing
- 8168 Basic Aerial Operations
- 1190 Truck Company Operations
- 15 hours hands on training on setup and operation of Aerial Tower
- 10 hours driver training of Aerial Tower
- Pass a written and practical exam
